Espresso & Tasting Workshop

Simple, reliable espresso foundation workshop for home baristas and new baristas

This workshop is the starting point for anyone who wants to understand espresso in a clear, approachable way. If you’re getting inconsistent shots at home or you’re new behind the bar, Espresso & Tasting will help you build a solid base before diving into milk steaming and latte art.

Who this workshop is for

  • Home espresso users who want more consistent, better-tasting shots.

  • New baristas or café staff who need a structured introduction to espresso.

  • Coffee enthusiasts who prefer a focused, espresso-only session without milk or latte art yet.

No technical background is required. A curiosity about coffee and an interest in learning are enough.

What you’ll learn

1. What espresso actually is

  • A clear explanation of what makes espresso different from other brews.

  • Simple concepts: dose, yield, brew time, and how they relate to taste.

  • How grind size and recipe affect sweetness, acidity, and bitterness.

2. A simple, repeatable espresso recipe

  • A reliable starting recipe you can use on most machines.

  • How to grind, dose, distribute and tamp in a consistent way.

  • Basic use of scales and timers (without overwhelming you).

3. Tasting and troubleshooting shots

  • Guided tasting of under-extracted, over-extracted and well-balanced shots.

  • How to connect what you taste in the cup to practical adjustments.

  • Easy troubleshooting steps when shots are sour, bitter or flat.

4. Workflow and care for your machine

  • A clean, organised workflow from prep to shot.

  • Basic cleaning and care habits that protect your machine and your coffee quality.

  • Simple tips for getting the best out of your home or café equipment.

This class focuses on espresso only. Milk steaming and latte art are taught separately in Milk Steaming & Latte Art Workshop.
