Bench Maji Gesha N

GESHA VILLAGE

From the wild forests of Ethiopia’s Bench Maji Zone, this natural Gesha delivers a cup that is both expressive and quietly elegant. Slow cherry maturation at high elevation enriches the fruit character, giving way to blueberry-tart sweetness, silky Earl Grey–cream tones, and an açaí-like depth, lifted by a gentle, structured acidity. Refined, aromatic, and layered, it showcases the purity and finesse that have made Gesha Village one of Ethiopia’s most celebrated origins.

About Coffee

The Story of Gesha Village

Gesha Village sits near the border of South Sudan in the dense, biodiverse forests of Bench Maji—the birthplace of Ethiopia’s most iconic flavour profiles. The estate was founded by Rachel Samuel and Adam Overton, who first discovered their passion for Ethiopian coffee while producing a documentary in 2007. After training with Gesha expert Willem Boot, they returned to locate the perfect site for cultivating world-class Gesha.

In 2011, they established the now-renowned 471-hectare Gesha Village Coffee Estate, selecting wild seeds directly from the neighbouring Gori Gesha forest, the genetic birthplace of the variety that later inspired Panama’s famous Geisha. Planted among native trees at high altitude, the farm benefits from rich soil, ample rainfall, and the kind of untouched landscape that allows Gesha to flourish naturally.

Farm Structure & Varieties

The estate is divided into eight sub-farms—Bangi, Narsha, Gaylee, Dimma, Shaya, Oma, Surma, and Shewa-Jibabu—each offering unique micro-terroirs. Three varieties are cultivated: Gesha 1931, Gori Gesha, and Illubabor, all tracked with meticulous traceability. The Bench Maji lot reflects the region’s signature clarity, florality, and acidity-driven elegance.

Pride of Gesha

Since 2016, the annual Pride of Gesha auction has drawn roasters worldwide, showcasing the estate’s top lots—frequently scoring 88+ and known for their floral, wine-like sweetness and remarkable refinement.

Natural Processing

This lot is dried whole on raised African beds, allowing the cherries to develop complexity under careful airflow and sunlight. Slow, even drying enhances berry density, floral nuance, and the smooth, polished structure characteristic of Gesha Village naturals.

The result is a cup that marries fruit purity, aromatic finesse, and a clean, tea-like structure—a beautiful expression of Ethiopia’s Gesha heritage.
